Son Ambulance – ‘Someone Else’s Deja Vu’ (Saddle Creek) 07.08.08

When you tread on the heels of Conner Oberst you are guaranteed to find great wonderous things.. like singer/somgwriter Joseph Knapp.  Sometimes using old tricks and nostalga to mezmerize us with his musical range, Knapp releases a 5 star masterpiece of some of the best songwriting you will ever hear.

Snuffed By The Yakuza – ‘Everybody’s Gonna Die Tonight’ (Hellcat) 07.08.08

Sweden delivers another solid punch of punk n fuck’n roll in that hives international noise conspiracy vein but with more filth and raw power that is just too brutal to stop.  Screamcore score for vandals.

Virgin Passages – ‘Distance’ (Fire UK) [live]

On some cold night, someone is standing on higher ground with an over view of some small town, meditating with Virgin Passages.  The title track blends in flawlessly and almost endlessly thawing you to sleep.  At least that’s what happened to me.. but not a real sleep, a conscious sleep where somewhere in between… this realm and that… lit by an ocean of tiny multicolored flares.  Even when ‘I want you to Sleep”, tempts me… it’s just too interesting to let me drift off.

Sunny Day Sets Fire – ‘Summer Palace’ (iamsound)

It’s like throwing spaghetti at the wall and see what sticks, and sometimes when you think you’ve got nothing… there is plenty of diversity with these musicians to be able to build something from practically nothing.  They can find something to work with and make it a living breathing thing.  Maybe the secret is in the fact that each one of these guys comes from different parts of the map.  Overall a very strong and vibrant effort that will take some under the counter stuff to clean up afterward.
